Tattoo pain isn’t just physical.
Many people go into a tattoo expecting to “just get through it” - bracing themselves, holding their breath, and hoping their body will cope.
But when your nervous system goes into threat mode, pain can feel more intense, your body becomes tense, and staying still becomes harder.
You might recognise this as:
• Pain escalating quickly
• Feeling overwhelmed or panicky
• Muscles tightening or trembling
• Wanting to escape or stop
This isn’t a failure of toughness.
It’s your nervous system trying to protect you.
And you can learn to change it.

You can learn to work with your nervous system - not against it.
The Tattoo Pain Reframe teaches you practical, evidence-based techniques that help your body shift out of threat and into safety.
When your nervous system feels safer, pain becomes more manageable, your breathing becomes easier, and your body becomes calmer and more cooperative.
This isn’t about distraction or “pushing through.”
It’s about changing how your body responds.

• Reduce the intensity of tattoo sensations
• Stay calm and steady during long sessions

Brigid
The Tattoo Pain Reframe was created by me, Brigid Godwin, in conjunction with my daughter, Poppie, who is a tattoo artist.
For over 23 years, I’ve helped people stay calm and comfortable during some of the most intense physical experiences imaginable.
I’m a senior yoga teacher, mindfulness teacher, breath coach, and hypnobirthing educator - and I’ve used these same science-backed techniques to help over two thousand women manage pain and stay in control during childbirth.
When my daughter became a tattoo artist, she told me about clients struggling, flinching, or tapping out early. I shared some of the nervous system techniques I’ve taught for years in birth preparation - and she saw immediate results. That’s how Tattoo Pain Reframe was born.
I also have multiple tattoos myself, so I can personally vouch for the efficacy of these methods in the chair!
You don’t have to rely on endurance alone.
You can learn practical skills to help your body feel calmer, safer, and more in control.
You can change your tattoo experience.

-
Yes. Tattoo Pain Reframe isn’t just for people who are worried about pain. It teaches you how to regulate your nervous system so your body stays calmer and more cooperative. Even people with high pain tolerance often find they feel more relaxed, steady, and in control using these techniques - especially during longer sessions or in areas that are more sensitive.
-
Yes. While it’s ideal to begin practicing a week or two beforehand, many people find the techniques helpful even when learned shortly before their appointment. You’ll also have tools you can use during the tattoo itself, and for any future tattoos.

Results can be felt immediately during practice, but like any nervous-system skill, it’s strengthened by repetition. Many students notice benefits during their very first tattoo session, while others gain maximum benefit with a few days of practice beforehand.
